I have always been interested in the ideas and diverse range of techniques used in Natural Health Care. My philosophy is to have simple but elegant ways of working in harmony with the body to maintain health

Mussarrat Butt (DNN, MFNTP)
Natural Nutrition Practitioner

My mother has been a huge inspiration to me, she showed me how to use natural remedies, MussarratButt03which stemmed from the South Asian Indian/Pakistani culture. I now know that these healing recipes were based in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine.

Although I initially worked for ten years within the IT field, it was at my first visit to a Mind, Body and Spirit fair when I was introduced to the diverse range of therapes found within Alternative Healing.

After the birth of my daughter I decided to change career and in 1999 trained as a reiki practitioner, which is a form of energetic healing. Reiki developed my interest further to learn more about how holistic therapies worked and how they could be used to support health and wellbeing.

In 2002, I completed a Higher National Diploma in Health and Holistic Therapies which involved the study of a range of complementary therapies including nutrition, aromatherapy, massage and reflexology. I then worked as a holistic therapist offering reiki, Indian Head Massage, reflexology and aromatherapy treatments.

From 2002-2007, I became a lecturer at Stockport College and taught a range of subjects in holistic therapies and health sciences. I then worked as a learning mentor helping students with a diverse range of issues which affected their learning. Whilst working with these teenagers, I was drawn to how factors like diet influenced mental health. I found issues with mental health very common amongst this age group.

My personal health and health issues within my family led me on to look deeper into how diet affects the mind, body and emotions.

I have always had a keen interest in food and cooking. coconutmilk1In my culture, cooking and sharing food is what brings families and friends together. It is the heart and soul of the home! I have developed this interest further and provide practical cooking support whilst sharing my recipes where food is being used medicinally. I am a chef/nutritional advisor catering for specific dietary needs at the Healthy Spirit Hub Cafe.

My passion lies in using food therapeutically to build the foundation for a healthy body and mind. There are many diseases and disorders where imbalanced nutrition is a contributory factor.

My aim is to promote awareness of how imbalanced nutrition during the lifetime of the individual has contributed to the current state of health and how to resolve these issues using Natural based Healthcare.

There are many different styles of nutritional therapy. I chose to study Natural Nutrition as its philosophy is based in respecting nature and the natural flow and rhythms of the body.

In 2008, I gained my diploma in Natural Nutrition DNN) and became a member of the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners (FNTP).
